I'm from Minnesota in the USA and come from a family of 9. I went to St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota. I started school as a Bio - Pre Dental student but with trying to balance that and being on the wrestling team I realized I didn't have the drive to be a science major and decided to switch to Asian Studies; as I had taken a few classes of the sub continent (mostly India). I was also taking Japanese at the time and applied to study abroad in Japan. I didn't get into that program as there were very limited spots available. So my second choice was to come to China.
I studied for a semester at Xinandaxue (Southwest University) in Beibei, Chongqing. After returning to the US and graduating in 2011, I wanted to come back to China as I had such a great time being here before. I became a teacher at Xinandaxue and stayed for 4 years. The 4 years there were split between teaching English majors for 2 years and general spoken and written English courses during the other 2. It was interesting teaching the general English as I was teaching graduate and doctoral students as some of them had more than 10 years on me. I was planning on going to Thailand after that but through a series of events and spending 10 months back home mannying for my nephew, I decided to come back to China for one more go at I2.
Since being at I2 I realized, not for the first time, that what I did at the university was not teaching, but that I was merely a foreign face. I have learned a great deal in my short time at I2 and look forward to learning more and to expand my teaching abilities.
