Hello! My name is Elena, also known to my students as Ellen. I’m an ST of Longhu campus.
Since this introduction is too long just skip directly to last two paragraphs))
To be honest with you, I’m one of those teachers who has never got a degree in teaching. When I was 17, I failed to get a scholarship for studying at the Faculty of International Relations, and I drew my attention to Medicine and Pharmacy. While studying at the Medical University, I used the opportunities offered by our Foreign languages department, such as international exchange programs and the course of translation in the sphere of medicine. (Even though I don’t speak many languages (to put it mildly) I’m fond of learning them. It’s just amazing how people on the opposite sides of the Earth can come out with literally the same idiomatic expressions, or on the contrary express the very same feeling in such a different ways. Fantastic, isn’t it?)
So when it came to earning some extra money the solution was found pretty quickly – English language tutor. Starting this part time job as an additional source of money I got a huge bonus. Every time coming back home after my classes I was in a great mood. Those little (and sometimes not very little) students were making me laugh; making me think about the stuff I’d never even imagine. I had my favorite students with extraordinary views and an exceptional sense of humor, and I had those who were pushing me and kicking me towards being a better teacher with their tricks and sometimes laziness. But it was then when I realized that teaching is great and I love it. Maybe that’s why I also tried teaching in my University (it was pharmacy, not English). And I enjoyed it a lot too by the way
I’m leaving the part with working for pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and chemical laboratories.
I had been an English tutor for four years before I came to China in March 2015. In August 2015 I started to work with i2. I became a senior teacher in April 2016. I2 helped me to have my TEFL training, which was amazing! Not only had it given me some basic knowledge about TESOL, but also a more clear view on the profession of the teacher. I met a lot of FTs and STs that week (all of them were from i2), and I had a chance to answer to myself what kind of teacher and what kind of coworker I want to be.
Today is October 27, 2016. I’m still with i2 and hope that the company and I can give a lot to each other, and the most important, we can give knowledge and desire to learn to our students.
Throughout the time I’ve worked in Longhu, it evolved from a small three classrooms, three teachers school on the 9th floor in a big campus working together with its’ blood brother Jiazhou =) Our team is growing all the time, and I do hope we all can be friends, inspiration, and refreshment for each other. As great Russian performer, Slava Polunin said: “Don’t work with people you don’t want to hug”!
