About little leaders in the class
<4 y.o. Parents should understand that they bring him/her only ty make their kid get used to interact with foreigner, and hear sound of English. There is no way to think about leaders in group, teacher is king and "tsar" mostly nourishing kid's brain some simple words, short phrases, develop pronunciation, ability to work in group(in case 1v1 with teacher), and also individual play using toys, funny plays, cartoons, songs and so on.
Absolutely, teacher should understand that there is a sponge insede their heads, and behave him appropriately - help parents and be accurate in nature character foundation.
4-6 y.o.
This is difficult age in China when process of first character fondation has began, and simultaneously most of parents in China just started to limit their children somehow. Teach basis of norm according their own world view.
In this situation, pupil behave themselves during the lesson according that programm of simple behavior, that parents programmed. And that is time, when teacher should politely participate in pattern formation. If next to him is forming intelligent and promising child, he should encourage this kid, but without pinching other kids in group. Im not support the idea of putting one student above others. Especially in this age.
But at the same time, this kid, and also his classmates should clearly see that success in English learning is encouraged, and should develop an understanding that improvements ane good in the first place.
6-8 y.o.
Have no idea. Something between two age categories, but mostly the same with 4-6 y.o.
8-14 y.o.
Main thing to understand that here can be several kinds of potential leader in class. In both situations - this kid's level of knowledge is the best in the class. That's where difficulties begin. Let's take a look on those situations:
1. Little guy is really smart. He knows that he is smart. He knows that his level is better than everyone else in this classroom. He remember every time, when techer encourage him and enjoy it.
But his parents gave him bad upbringing. He doesn't think about other pupil, about a teacher, about education proccess at all. He notice only that he can remember materials quickly and at the first opportunity he shows what he knows. He prevents other kid's answers and it can be disturbing for kids and for teacher. He can shout, dispespect other kids and laugh when his classmate's answer is wrong. What is the most important - its totally ruins educational proccess and average level of whole group. Disbalance.
This kind of person is totally cannot be a class leader in case of teacher's private explanations were not successfull.
There are three ways to solve this problem:
a) Put this guy in a stronger group(which can be difficult and undesireble)
b) Try to make his parent affect on him, and in case of failure - explain them that kid need to try study alone. Not because he can't study in group, but cuz it can be better for him in the first place, for his English and his classmates. If he enjoy studying it so much, but dont know how to behave himself - we are killing two rabbits. His classmates dont suffer and "disturber" can be taught according his good abilities. Of course, if parents agree and have opportunity to pay for private lessons.
c) put up with a situation where one upstart inhibits the development of the group, giving hints and not letting others think on their own.
2. Little guy is smart. His English is good, but he dont want anything. He behave himself melancholically. He doesn't know why he does it, and participates in activities reluctantly.
In this case teacher should help, and encourage this student. If teacher understand, that this child can do more, you should have a private conversation with his parents and him - explain him what he does, motivate to participate in activities during the lesson. If teacher and parents can work together - this child can easily become 3rd kind of kid. That kind, who can be some kind of leader in the class, which is more important - he can be assiatant.
3. Smart kid, with clear desire to study language. Learning comes easy. Moreover, this kid was grown in good inviorment and parents explained him/her, what is, by the way, is quite rarely in China, good and bad. Kid "respects" other people's disire to develop therefore doesn't impede educational process. In case if teacher see that this kid also trying not to hint, but help other student, he can encourage this kid, and sometimes use him as an assistant in some activities.
Those my thoughts can be absolutely wrong because I dont have pedagogical education. Everything based on own toughts and poor experience.
